Back the prices bookmakers get wrong

Also called +EV betting: instead of guessing who wins, you compare a bookmaker's price against the wider market's own consensus. When their price pays more than it should, that gap is your edge -- and it shows up over hundreds of bets, not any single one.

How value betting works

The same four steps apply whether it's an NRL head-to-head or an NBA player prop.

1
Work out the fair price

Average the de-vigged prices from several bookmakers on the same outcome and you get a market-consensus estimate of the true probability.

2
Compare it to one bookmaker's price

If a bookmaker's own price pays more than that fair price implies, they're pricing worse than the market as a whole -- that gap is the edge.

3
Bet the edge, not the result

A +EV bet still loses plenty of the time. You're not predicting winners, you're taking a price that pays more than it should, over and over.

4
Let the sample size do the work

Any single bet is close to a coin flip either way. The edge only shows up once you've placed enough of them.

A worked example

Three bookmakers price the same outcome. Averaging their de-vigged prices gives a fair probability of 50% -- fair odds of $2.00.

A fourth bookmaker is slower to move and is still offering $2.20 on the same outcome.

Fair probability (market consensus)50.0%
Fair price implied by that probability$2.00
This bookmaker's own price$2.20
Edge on this bet ($2.20 vs a $2.00 fair price)+10.0% EV

This single bet still loses close to half the time -- the true chance of winning hasn't changed, only the price you're being paid for taking that chance. The edge is in repeating bets like this one, not in this specific result.

Fair prices move fast -- checking them by hand doesn't scale

The +EV Finder averages every bookmaker's price across a market in real time and flags whichever price is paying more than the consensus says it should.

How OddsRise helps

+EV Finder

Averages de-vigged prices across every bookmaker on a market and flags any single book paying above that fair price -- only markets with 3 or more bookmakers count, to avoid noise from thin coverage.

Trends

Finds players on a run of beating the line the bookmakers are offering them, with every recent game behind it, so you can size up a price against real recent form, not just the market average.

Questions people ask

Every individual bet still has real variance -- you can lose ten in a row and still be following the strategy correctly. The difference is that over a large enough sample, betting only when the price is in your favour produces a real, measurable edge, the same way a casino's edge shows up over thousands of hands even though any single one is unpredictable.
